Dan Evans is an illustrator from North London. He enjoys pina coladas, long walks in the rain and going to the cinema. But he couldn’t find any magazines he liked featuring pina coladas or rainy walks, which is why he ended up working on New Empress. If you want to talk to him about any future illustration projects, or the work of Jason Statham, get in touch.
Amy McKay was born in Amsterdam to a Londoner and a Scot, she grew up in Yorkshire, spent time with an acting troupe in Dundee then studied illustration at Cambridge; she has no distinguishable accent. Amy’s great passions are traditional British illustration, the theatre and 90s newsroom sitcom Drop the Dead Donkey. Her favourite film, seen at every opportunity on the big screen, is Some Like it Hot, director-wise she’s a Powell and Pressburger girl and her favourite actor is Jonathan Pryce, whether he be on screen or stage.
Jes Hunt can be found hunched over her desk in (mainly) sunny Brighton, furiously scribbling away on reams of paper amidst a sea of sketchbooks. Over a prolonged period, her fingers have adapted to her continuous drawing and have conveniently mutated into pen-like appendages, which she dips into an ink pot on her desk. This may or may not be true. What is true is that her illustration is editorial and narrative in nature and she has produced work for Stranger Magazine, Adrenalin Magazine, Amelia’s Magazine, The Parabola Project, FormFiftyFive, New Empress Magazine and more.

illustrator and character designer, who is heavily influenced by animation of the “Golden Age”, and regularly partakes in the viewings of cartoons and animated films – for research purposes, of course!

Hazimi Khalil a portrait artist from Malaysia. Drawing people and places in pencils is his work and pleasure. He normally uses photographs as a source of reference and and a range of graphite pencils. He first discovered that he could draw portraits at the age of 13 years old and although he received encouragement from teachers at school, he is primarily self-taught.
What drives Hazimi to draw is the simple fact that he enjoys it and the response he gets from those that he have drawn for. These include complimentary remarks from such diverse personalities such as US entertainers Donny and Marie Osmond, UK film actor Paul Freeman, UK playwright David Hare and Cherie Blair, wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. He is also a private teacher offering drawing classes to people of all abilities.
His recent work includes a commission from The American International University in London. Hazimi’s drawings can be viewed on his website.
