A steamy day at the Excel centre in London’s east end yesterday culminated in a sit down with Danny DeVito [Batman Returns, War of the Roses, Romancing the Stone] who was at the event promoting his latest film The Lorax (2012). Devito spoke eloquently about the ecologically friendly Dr Seuss adaptation, but the big news was undoubtedly the rumoured, but now confirmed, Twins (1988) sequel.
“ I had a meeting with Arnold (Schwarzenegger). His agents were there, my agents were there are as soon as you get in that situation you know something is going to happen”. Devito explained at yesterday’s MCM EXPO.
“ We don’t have a finished script but we thought about the idea of having another Twin and who better to play that role than Eddie Murphy?”
The original movie is a beloved family favourite and scooped over 200 million at the box-office, which was a good return back in 1988. The addition of Murphy has comedic potential and with Arnie back doing what he does best fans of the original can only hope the yet-to-be-finished script lives up to the premise.
In addition to chatting to Mr Devito, we also managed to chat to the delectable Elvira A.K.A Cassandra Peterson who was in town promoting the UK DVD release of Elvira’s Haunted Hills (2001). Dressed in her famous vampiress attire , Elvira took questions from the audience and revealed that when they were looking for a director for her first movie Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988) a young filmmaker called Tim Burton applied for the position. When she tried to hire him he’d already been signed up by her close friend Paul Reubens to direct Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure (1985).
