Attention all prospective comedy writers and filmmakers: a festival you will not want to miss is coming to Manchester on the 29th and 30th October. Now in its second year, and once again taking place at Manchester’s Comedy Store, COFILMIC aims to uncover the best new comedy talent and give it a platform where it can be critiqued and developed by industry experts.
Budding filmmakers and comedy writers are invited to submit entries for this year’s competition and the deadline for submission is August 14th.
The awards are split into three different categories:
-Best Comedy Short Film
-Best Sitcom or Web Series
-Best Sketch
All entries must be a maximum of 5 minutes in length. More detailed information on the festival can be found here:
With some prizes involving exciting opportunities still yet to be finalized, COFILMIC can confirm that the award winners will gain a priceless opportunity to hold face to face meetings with a team of industry experts. These include Charlie Hanson, , BAFTA winner and producer of Extras, Garth Marenghi and Life’s Too Short; Leslee Udwin, BAFTA winning producer of East is East and sequel, West is West and BBC comedy commissioning editor Kristian Smith.

Join us at the Shortwave Cinema in Bermondsey tomorrow night for our monthly film quiz! Blade Runner fans can enjoy a whole round dedicated to Ridley Scott’s classic and alongside our picture rounds and scene reenactment rounds we also have a soundtrack round in which all of the songs will come from films that begin with the letter M.

On Sunday 19th of February the New Empress Quiz Night returns to the Shortwave Cinema in Bermondsey.
To celebrate the fact this week is the 25 th anniversary of an integral member of the bratpack getting it on with a synthetic sweetheart, we’re dedicating a special round to Andrew McCarthy – the star of hits such as Weekend at Bernie’s and Weekend at Bernie’s 2, and the previously alluded-to Mannequin. Form the ultimate film geek quiz team and prove once and for all that you’re no dummy!
Don’t forget that every month we also screen a short film and have a director Q and A. This month it is the darkly hilarious “Speechless.” A suave, observational piece that caught the eye of Mr Kermode himself.

]]>As part of our pledge to support independent film and cinemas in the UK, New Empress Magazine are currently offering film makers a chance to screen their film in central London for free at our monthly screening and quiz night at the Shortwave Cinema in Bermondsey.
All you have to do is forward us the details of your short / feature and a link to either the film itself or a trailer. Month by month we will select the best films to screen to our London audience in a bid to showcase some of the best independent talent around.
