Having taken over from the much-loved Sandra Hebron last year, Clare Stewart’s second term as head of the BFI London Film Festival looks set to continue the decision for a shorter event run. The 57th BFI London Film Festival, it has been announced today, will showcase the best in world cinema from 9th October to 20th.

The 56th BFI London Film Festival saw over 227 films and 13 world premieres in venues right across the city (another Stewart innovation) with an eclectic programme of movies and events. Tim Burton’s stop-motion Frankenweenie – a love letter to horror cinema – opened the festival with Mike Newell’s Great Expectations, the closer.

Submissions are now open for short films (deadline: 14 June 2013) and features (28th June).

The full programme will be unveiled in September.
